I thought this would be a fun thing to do so you can see what types of music I listen to. Although it might not be a completely accurate representation since some of the songs that came up are ones I haven’t listened to in months or even years, haha! It might be a better idea than you had before, though! Now I feel like listening to different things in my playlist though so it was fun!

If you want to get a better idea of my music tastes, you can check out my last.fm profile where I track all the music I listen to. Leave it to this statistics nerd to keep track of that somewhere.

Lets see. I tag Sassyray, Kristie, and Kerri!

In my last post where I shared my picture of my “cloud castle,” I got an awesome comment from Alexandra. She said that the picture reminded her of the song Castle On A Cloud from Les Misérables and she told me I should sing it and share it with everyone.

I thought that was an awesome idea. Castle On A Cloud was one of my favourite songs when I was a kid. It was one of the first songs I learned when I first started taking voice lessons and Les Misérables was also the first musical I saw on Broadway so it is very special to me.

Enjoy! Thanks for the suggestion, Alexandra!

I made this mix while I was feeling really melancholy and all I wanted to hear were guitars and pianos and soft voices singing melancholy sounding songs. The last two tracks are a bit different. Number 7 is purely instrumental and I absolutely adore it. It’s a piano and cello duet of a mix of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” It is by an awesome composer by the name of Jon Schmidt. The last song that I snuck on there is Hanson which I put last in case you want to stop listening before you get there. Hey, being the Hanson fan that I am it was bound to happen in one of my Music Monday posts. At least I have the courtesy to put it in a place where you can skip it the easiest if you’d like. I know that there is still a certain taboo about listening to Hanson which I respect even if I don’t understand! The last time I blogged about Hanson I lost a bunch of subscribers but maybe they were just upset that Josh cut his hair. Who knows?

Something new this week. For those of you who enjoyed my mix last week, I’m really glad. If it wasn’t for you, thanks for giving it a try anyway. I know I always enjoy trying out new music even if it ends up not being for me.

This week I put together a mix of some female vocalists (or bands) that I’ve been listening to lately. One or two of them are sort of similar to last week’s mix (I couldn’t help myself – I’ve just been in that ambient/chill kind of mood lately) but the rest of them are much different! Enjoy!

Who is your favourite female vocalist?

I leave for New Zealand tomorrow! Tomorrow!!!

I probably won’t be able to be in touch for a while and understandably once I reunite with Josh I probably won’t want to talk to all of you for a while. No offense. :P

In all seriousness, though, we won’t have internet for a bit while we get situated in our new place. Things will probably be a bit crazy for a while. I expect it to be crazy in a very good way, though.

So, I wanted to leave you with one more goodbye blog post and give you one more treat! I will share with you what I will be doing on my plane ride. Aren’t you excited? I know you are. My trip will be over 30 hours long not counting travel time to the first airport or customs at the end of the last airport. Crazy, right? Oh, and that could turn into an even longer journey now that a stupid volcano decided to erupt in Chile and blow some ash my way. Hopefully that doesn’t happen. I think 30+ hours is long enough for me.

So, here is what I’m doing on my trip.

  • Sleeping. Oh, I really, really hope I can sleep. If you have ANY tips for sleeping on planes that you’ve been hiding… NOW is your time to share them with me.
  • Finally reading the Harry Potter books on my Kindle. Yeah, I know. What kind of person am I for never reading the Harry Potter series? You probably are disowning me as a blog friend right now. Hit that unsubscribe button right now. I will probably understand. I might even unsubscribe from my own blog. I’m that embarrassed that I haven’t read them yet.
  • Worrying about the ash cloud. Hey, it’s the truth. Not necessarily worrying about danger but worrying about it delaying my damn flight. No offense to Sydney but I don’t really want to be stuck there, only 3 hours away from glorious Wellington.
  • Listening to my super fabulous playlist that I made until my crappy little 4G mp3 player dies. Oh, but it will be epic while it lasts. I’ll even share my music playlist with you.

Don’t worry. Some songs have special or silly meanings. Try to guess some of them if you can. Maybe you remember one I might have sung at my wedding or you can guess which ones I might listen to in a certain airport or even which one I might listen to on my New Zealand touch down? I just might not get back to you for a while.

See you on the other side!

[box type="shadow"]Question 7 of the BlissMB 30 Day Meme: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? What about now? [/box]

From the time I could speak, I was singing as well. As most kids who are encouraged to sing are, I was also a really big ham. Not only did I really enjoy singing for everyone, but I was pretty darn good at it, too! I loved to sing. Every chance there was for me to be on stage, I was there. Talent shows, theater, those annoying little performances you can pay to do at amusement parks, private voice lessons and acting lessons… you name it!

I wanted to be a singer! I wanted to be an actress! Combine them, and you had my dream! Musical theater was just everything I always wanted! Even before I knew what it was called, I told my mother that I wanted to be a “singing actress.” I’ll probably never live that one down even though it is pretty damn cute. (Just like I’ll never live down the fact that I used to call entomologists bugologists – even though I am pretty sure that these terms are actually synonymous.)

Now I am a mathematics teacher. I am certified to teach math to intermediate and secondary students. You may think that this is quite unrelated but actually music and math are very related. Many people who excel in music also are very good in math. I have always loved math and I have always loved music.

Now something that is somewhat unrelated: one of my favourite songs. Enjoy.

I also haven’t given up on my music. I still sing professionally and plan to always sing and perform and keep my love of music and performance with me for the rest of my life. I am just glad that I can have both of these things that I love in my life with me.

Josh showed me something really interesting tonight. He wanted me to listen to this techno song (even though we are both not very partial to techno) but he promised me that he had a purpose. He told me to really listen to it for a while and hear how it went. So I did.

Then, Josh told me to listen to this song.

I love when people are able to take songs and create entirely different and beautiful music and remixes from it. I wanted to share it with you.

Do you have a favorite remix?
