Do you think that everything happens for a reason? I don’t really think of it exactly like that but I have a similar school of thought. Perhaps things don’t go exactly as you want at a specific point in your life, but if they don’t go that way, maybe certain events down the line that are really amazing won’t be able to happen. Consequently, sometimes when really great things happen to us, it sometimes causes some events that might not be so fantastic to spiral into effect.
I guess I like to think of life’s events as a series of cause and effect but when you really analyze it, I guess it could be explained as “everything happens for a reason.” I suppose it just depends what way you try and describe it.
How do you look at it? Do you think that everything happens for a reason? Is there just cause and effect? Is there just no explanation for the events that are thrown at us?

I will quote one of my ultimate favourite animé here and say:
I think we have a point A and point B.
We just chose the way we get to point B. That’s life.
I think this is exactly what I was trying to say on my blog.. I’m not so good with words. I think it’s a little bit of all three of those, honestly.
I believe in… karmic shifting in events life throws at us. You live well, you eventually receive good things. You live like a filthy pig, you eventually get events that support that choice. I don’t think anything is *predetermined*, there’s always a choice, but I do believe there is a *reason* to everything, yes, even if it isn’t always very clear. Every little thing that happens can be viewed as a lesson from the universe. *noddle*
I truly don’t believe in coincidence, and I definitely believe that things happen for a reason. I also believe that there’s something much bigger than we (humans) can comprehend. I do believe, too, that you get what you put into your life. If you only put bad attitudes and bad energy into the world, that’s all you’ll be able to get back.
I didn’t really even consider cause and effect when I wrote my blog post, but I think you are also right. Sometimes things don’t exactly have a reason, yet they occur because of some other event.
I definitely believe things happen for a reason – I look at my ex for example. While I wish at times I never dated him but had I not dated him, I would not have my friends today or my boyfriend. Funny how things work out!
I think consciously, and subconsciously things happen because of choices that people make. You might not have control over it, or had an direct influence on events, but things happened because of a decision someone (you or otherwise) made.
I’m really not sure about this – a lot of the things that have happened to me have been because I worked hard at it. So if everything happens for a reason, then that makes my hard work seem useless if it was going to happen anyway? I do believe however that some things happen to test you and challenge you, but other things you have to make happen yourself.
Absolutely. Not in a “God has a plan” type of way, but more of in a “everything has a silver lining” sort of way. Even really terrible things make the good things in life seem better. Mistakes help you learn.
Even when Princess died, something I was dreading for years, I felt relief because I didn’t have to worry about her dying anymore.
I also think the universe has a way of balancing out, reaching equilibrium. No one can have all good things or all bad things happen. Good things will lead to bad and bad to good. That’s statistically inevitable.
Since I believe that there is a sovereign God, yes, sorta. I mean, I don’t think that God causes pain or sin, but I do believe that he redeems the mess we’ve made and the effects.
This post led me to spent a good hour on a spiritual (pagan) message board last night… just trying to work out something that’s been on my mind for months.
So, to answer your question, I don’t know… Right now, I’m feeling pretty non-theist and that everything is random and not especially connected. Years ago, I would have had a very different answer.
