[box type="shadow"]Question 9 of the BlissMB 30 Day Meme: What actually frustrates you the most that people are not aware about?[/box]

Nutrition, fitness, and overall health.

I know that not everyone is going to be a picture perfect example of health but there is a difference between being healthy and being aware. Over the past few years I was not healthy but I knew I wasn’t healthy. I knew what I had to do to fix it and even though it is a hard thing it was always something that I was conscious about.

A lot of people completely ignore the fact that they are unhealthy or they don’t even know that they are unhealthy. Some of this is due to the fact that they are completely uneducated as to what being healthy is and what they should and should not be eating and how much they should be moving their bodies each day. It completely baffles me how some people can be so incredibly unaware and don’t do anything about learning about nutrition or general health. Lately, some of the things I hear people claim about health, fitness, or nutrition without any sources to even back it up really make me upset.

Something I watched recently that I’d like to share: Fat Like Me
Warning: it’s lengthy and graphic but definitely was something I’m glad I watched.

  1. I really agree with your frustration! It’s amazing what a different being educated can make!

Really there is no excuse for being unhealthy and this is coming from someone who spent majority of her life BEING unhealthy. I was started to accept that I couldn’t change and I refused to give up things that I loved.

Then I learned that I didn’t necessarily HAVE to! I just had to be smart about it. I had to stop sitting on the couch and doing nothing all day! Just SMALL changes can really make all the difference!

And hey, even people who aren’t obese aren’t necessarily heavy. I know people who have been thin all their life and they have ALWAYS been even more unhealthy than the obese me because they only ever eat junk and never try to eat anything outside of their junk food comfort zone.

  2. That’s definitely true. It’s really frustrating when people criticize my own food choices based on something they heard on Oprah instead of doing actual research. I even had someone tell me that vegetables cause cancer and that people should never eat them! I also know someone who hates all food that isn’t bread and cheese. I’m glad that these days it’s becoming the popular thing to be healthy – it makes it so much easier to buy a huge variety of foods because now food manufacturers have jumped on the health bandwagon! It’s still super important to do research and make choices that work for you. Anyway, great post!

I just watched the “FAT LIKE ME” video. It is very powerful, and makes some very good points. ~ You’re doing GREAT with your weight loss plan. Keep up the good work! ~ Love, Mom

  4. mmm hmmm!
I think it upsets me a lot because I used to be one of those people. I mean, in the 90s everyone thought that you only got fat by eating fat and everything was low fat or fat free. I really thought sour patch kids and bagels were health food and I couldn’t understand why I was so big. Thank God for the internet!

If I could force people to do one good thing for their health, I would take away their soda. Not completely, but at least down to one can a week. Diet, non diet, they’re both terrible for you and baffles me that there are people who have like three cans a day. Not as bad as cigarettes, another habit I don’t understand, but much more popular.

  5. You have to be careful judging people. They might have an invisible health issue. I get winded doing any movement. I end up coughing and wheezing, because I have a lung condition. Not because I’m fat. I got fatter once I got sick because I have to take steroids and I can’t move as much [I used to cycling 12 miles a day and go to the gym three days a week]. I literally had to start by walking five minutes round the corner because I was so weak.

You never know where someone is in their journey either. Imagine a very confident 230lb woman walking around in shorts. You see her there in that moment and maybe think shorts are inappropriate, but you didn’t see her six months ago when she was 260lb. She’s made huge strides and a lot of progress and she’s rightfully proud of that.

I firmly believe that health and weight should not be married. No matter what size you are, if you’re eating a wide variety of foods and moving your body every day then it doesn’t matter how big you are, you are healthy. This is called Health at Every Size [HAES] if anyone wants to learn more.

    • I am only saying that it is frustrating when people are not educating themselves on these topics and are not aware about them! I even said that I was overweight at one point but was aware. I know plenty of people whose illnesses limit them but they are at least knowledgeable in these areas and I fully respect and support them! I only am frustrated when people completely ignore and don’t care about these topics at all.

  6. Oh! And love the new layout. :D
