[box type="shadow"]Question 7 of the BlissMB 30 Day Meme: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? What about now? [/box]
From the time I could speak, I was singing as well. As most kids who are encouraged to sing are, I was also a really big ham. Not only did I really enjoy singing for everyone, but I was pretty darn good at it, too! I loved to sing. Every chance there was for me to be on stage, I was there. Talent shows, theater, those annoying little performances you can pay to do at amusement parks, private voice lessons and acting lessons… you name it!
I wanted to be a singer! I wanted to be an actress! Combine them, and you had my dream! Musical theater was just everything I always wanted! Even before I knew what it was called, I told my mother that I wanted to be a “singing actress.” I’ll probably never live that one down even though it is pretty damn cute. (Just like I’ll never live down the fact that I used to call entomologists bugologists – even though I am pretty sure that these terms are actually synonymous.)
Now I am a mathematics teacher. I am certified to teach math to intermediate and secondary students. You may think that this is quite unrelated but actually music and math are very related. Many people who excel in music also are very good in math. I have always loved math and I have always loved music.
Now something that is somewhat unrelated: one of my favourite songs. Enjoy.
I also haven’t given up on my music. I still sing professionally and plan to always sing and perform and keep my love of music and performance with me for the rest of my life. I am just glad that I can have both of these things that I love in my life with me.

I love memes! They are such a good way to get to know people better. I’ve never been big on singing or performing in front of people. I think it’s great that you still do it.
I also enjoy memes. When other people do it I learn a lot about them. Thanks!
omg I could have written the first half of this post, lol. My parents have so many videos of me performing when I was a kid. I like the one with my little plastic guitar and I’m singing lalalalalalala bamba. I wanted to be a singer/actress up until I was in middle school and I auditioned for the musical and didn’t even get a callback. I mean, they only accepted middle school boys, but I was still crushed. Even worse when I tried out again sophmore year of HS and didn’t make it. I’m a pretty bad dancer (as you can tell from my DITL) which hurt me a lot. My parents also never took me to voice lessons which still pisses me off. I must have asked a billion times. I was good, but never good enough to get a solo in HS, though I came real close a couple times.
I’m a much better singer now. Allergy medicine and being fit helps a lot with breath control. I joined that choir, but I quit because everyone was ancient. I recently unsubscribed from their email list because all the funeral notices were depressing. I really want to try out for a show. Our town is doing Sweeny Todd at the end of the year. Meanwhile, I sing at work and everyone tells me how amazing I am which is just about the biggest confidence booster.
Sorry, didn’t mean to give my life story :) I totally understand the actress/singer thing though :P I’m glad you’re still singing cause you’re super good. My coworkers would be in awe :D
No way! I love when people share things in the comments. That’s what blogging is all about! I don’t want to just writewritewrite and never get anything back!
I love that we have so much in common. I am sorry that you never were able to have voice lessons growing up. I think that it really added to my abilities as my voice was growing and my parents really gave me a lot of opportunities in that respect. When it came time for college, I almost majored in musical theater but then sort of realized that I didn’t need a degree in it to still participate in it and since I also loved math I could do it too. It was the best of both worlds.
I love that you sing for your coworkers. I can totally relate with being fit helping with singing. When I was really fit back in college it was when I sung at my best. My asthma was under control and my breath support was amazing. Now, I am finding that come back again. I bet you see the same thing. Ugh, it’s so hard to sing with allergies. Keep on singing! :)
when you’re not singing for us people come over and ask me where you are! i’ve been relying on you alot and you never let us down, thank you so much. i don’t know what we’re going to do when you leave,, but enjoying your beautiful voice for as long as we can.
Aww, thank you so much, Marie! I love singing at St. Lawrence and I am always happy to sing whenever you need me whenever I am here. :)
I definitely agree that math and music go hand in hand. I was average at math… while I got As in every other subject, I had to work for a B in math. :/ So looking back, I’m not surprised that I struggled with music, which I took in ninth grade in conjunction with chorus. While I love to sing, I have absolutely no clue how to read sheet music, and I doubt I could play anything other than “Mary Had a Little Lamb” or “Silent Night” on the piano to save my life, lol.
You have a beautiful voice, btw. :)
I agree with Marie! I love when you sing at Saint Lawrence! ~ On another topic, that is quite an interesting/unique video you posted! I’ve never seen anything quite like it! I guess that’s because I’m OLD!! ~ Love, Mom
Well, commenting on the video does seem a challenging job. I have explored the hidden beauty of abstract art; however, this video is reflecting metaphysical domains in pure physical terms. Awesome choice!!! The story starts with rotating satellites, it ends up when two souls disappear in the water. I’m still trying to figure out the hidden message.
It’s Caity’s choice. There must be some Maths involved in it. Is it some special kind of Geometry of singing? What Algebra of Creativity is involved in that? I’m still figuring it out. Is Caity trying to mobilize static innovation of 21st century?
Let me play it again. I think I missed something very important. Hold on for a second….
— Music starts, and blue sky appears in the background.
— Soul is flying upwards.
— Space is the destination.
— Water is the symbol of life.
— Signs of Success and achievements are also there.
— Something ancient… something medieval…for sure
I’m still trying to comprehend the thematic values within. Encoding is still in progress. Someone is trying to find her place? Writing a new page everyday? Hmmm…
Something is different. It’s happening with me for the second time in my life. Once I tried to figure out Medieval Stretch Bracelets, and now I’m trying to explore this primitive sort of mystery.
Thumbs up for Caity!!! May you have 100 more years to write millions of pages. Next generations would decipher you, I believe.
I at one point wanted to be a singer, but I was always shy. I love watching all your singing videos!! I sing all the time on my own while I’m working or cleaning or playing video games lol. It took me years before I stopped caring so much if Rich could hear me…I still sing quieter when he’s home :s lol I think it is awesome that you still do something that you’ve always wanted to do. My big thing when I was little was that I wanted to be a writer, then I learned that it takes years to get a book published and that kind of dampened that. I wrote fan fiction for a while and poetry, but don’t write much anymore. I try but there’s just no stories in my head it seems. Astronaut is the other one I remember from elementary school, but it scared me that they were in space for so long. I was a bit of a wimp when I was growing up…lol
A singing actress – that’s so cute! :P
I wanted to be a cat farmer.
