[box type="shadow"]Question 10 of the BlissMB 30 Day Meme: Do you think you can go on 30 straight days without internet (including the one in your mobile)? What would you do without it? [/box]
Absolutely.
I love the internet. I love computers. It’s a big hobby of mine, probably more than most of my friends and more than a lot of people my age, even. Could I live without it though? Sure. The internet, and even computers, are not necessities for life and I could do without them. In fact, I bet the longer I went without them the easier it would be. When I first moved to New Zealand, Josh and I didn’t have a computer for quite some time and we were fine. I was a lot calmer, actually.
If I didn’t have the internet, here is a list of things I would focus my energy on instead.
- Exercising. This could be going to the gym as well as finding new types of activities I could enjoy outside like biking, running, hiking in new locations, and swimming!
- Cooking and baking.
- Reading.
- Writing. Yeah, I would miss blogging a little bit but I could still journal. Paper journaling is still really fun and I do it even now. I bet I would be even more creative. Besides journaling, I might even write stories or even try to write a book.
- Take more photos. Lets face it – if I wasn’t at my computer all day I would be a lot more creative and I would be taking a LOT more photos… although I guess I’d have to go develop them somewhere.
- Play the piano again.
- Travel. I’m not talking about traveling the world but even just exploring places in my own neck of the woods where I never took the time to really explore before.
- Spend more time with my friends and family.
The possibilities are endless, really.
What would you do without the internet?
Could you do it?

I really don’t think I could do it and that’s actually very, very sad. I think if I HAD to live without it I would text people more often instead of relying on FB and Twitter, play offline games, definitely read a lot more and spend more time outdoors.
I could defiantly do it. I think I’d love to, if I could get away from the feelings of “obligation” to respond to emails, comments, to blog, to post on forums, etc. If I could prepare to leave the internet, that’d be okay (take off email updates for bills and other important things).
I would do everything you’ve listed, minus playing the piano. I’d add in exploring hobbies there, or playing games, doing puzzles, and other sorts of things. I use internet to keep in contact with far away friends, but I could give out my phone number, and write old fashioned letters.
Sounds like fun, actually.
Yeeees! I actually did this before I got internet at my apartment. I actually really enjoyed it! I baked more and read real books more. The internet is such a distraction from real life!
well, considering I wouldn’t have a job without the internet, I’m gonna say no. I guess if I took a month off from work and traveled or something. Even then, I’d greatly miss the ability to look up restaurants and directions. So, if I took off a month, traveled and did all my research ahead of time, yes, I could live without the internet.
Well, Caitlin . . . I KNOW this post wasn’t meant for me! You KNOW I could totally live without the internet because I totally live without it NOW!!! LOL (with the exception of e-mail, which I could live without, no problem!) I am so LOW-TECH! It’s sad! Love, Mom
I literally couldn’t live without the Internet without finding another job but I was just thinking about how I’ve been.. treating the Internet differently. More as a resource. I’m doing less connecting with and communicating with others lately. Reading blogs less. Falling behind in social aspects and it makes me a little sad but I also know it’s because I’ve been doing more things in “real” life.
No Internet would mean no moving thieving for me, though. I’d be sad. LOL
Probably? The only problem would be work/school but assuming I could figure out how to survive without it for those things, I think it would be kind of liberating :)
{just wanted to add ANOTHER Amanda to your comments, ha! Name of the day, apparently!}
If I was done with school and its online classes (some of my courses aren’t even offered on campus) I could probably live without the internet (although I bet my job might require its use). Aside from school and work, though, I could do without the online world but it would be tough and a little sad (there are so many amazing people out in blogland!). Like you said, the internet isn’t a necessity – at least from a recreational standpoint. I’ve realized that I spend way too much time online and it’s preventing me from doing so many other things; I have started paying more attention to how I spend my time and I feel better now that I’ve started limiting blogging/Facebook time and using it for other things. I think whoever said “everything in moderation” was onto something. ;) Okay, this comment is long enough. I hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday!
I could live without internet at home, I’ve done it many times. However since my work is focused entirely around the internet, I’d have to get a different job to completely cut it out.
