We’re moving! :)

On September 14th, less than 3 weeks from today, Josh and I will be on a plane to New Zealand. We have one way tickets. I am absolutely ecstatic. Oh, I’m also scared as hell.

Josh bought me flowers yesterday when we found out to tell me he loved me and to calm me down a little bit.

Flowers

We have started to make a list of things to do before we leave, including a big going away party on the 12th of September. Can you think of some random things we might not have thought about that you really think we should do or need to do before we depart?

Wow Caity, how exciting! I can totally imagine how scared you must be, but just think of all the good points, and in a few months you’ll be completely settled :) Can’t unfortunately help with list of things to do, the furthest I’ve moved from my parents is 5 minutes!

Close out your bank accounts. You don’t want to end up paying fees on a zero balance.

This is awesome news! Congrats :)

Erh, as for silly things to remember to do all I can think of is forwarding mail, cancel news/milk deliveries if you have ‘em, close your bank accounts, cancel your electric & gas / TV / cable / phone packages and eat everything in your fridge and freezer so that they don’t have to be thrown out, or worse left and cause a smell!

I’m so excited for you, Caity! I can’t wait to hear about the new adventures in NZ! I would be a nervous wreck, too.

I would probably eat at most of my favorite places before I went away because I end up craving things that I can’t get anymore now that I’m in Baltimore, but that’s just me.

how about hooking up a camera on your computer and your moms so she can see you and talk to you when you’re there? and show her how to use it! as a mom thats what i would like. and call them a pretty lot when you first move there. sounds kind of dopey maybe but o well i’m a mom…..

    • Ashleigh @leighish August 25, 2010

That doesn’t sound dopey to me at all.

    • Caity August 26, 2010

I truly am happy for you and Josh because I know this is what you want. BUT . . . as your mom, I am devastated at the thought of you living half way around the world!!! I am going to miss you SOOOOOOOOO MUCH! I absolutely LOVE the idea of your hooking up a camera to my computer and teaching me how to use it! I want to still be able to SEE YOU! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Remember, Dad and I will always be here for you for anything you and Josh may need, OK? Lots of Love and Hugs, MOM xoxo

    Caity,

Wow. I don’t show for awhile and major life changes happen. This is exciting. I’ve heard NZ is beautiful.

Regarding what to do before you leave…hmmm…a lot of people selected what I would want to do. Mark your moving boxes very carefully so you know what’s in them:~) I made this mistake once and had to open almost every box before I found what I needed. Then again, going to NZ…I imagine you will not be a lot of boxes…except maybe the cat travel box?

Have fun and please keep writing so we know how it goes!

    Those flowers are gorgeous!

I’m trying to remember what I had to do when I moved to the UK back in 99. Oh! Get an address book and make everyone put their details in it at your party. Then you won’t have to scramble for contact later on.

Research cheap ways to call the US. I use telediscount.com – there must be an NZ equivalent. My parents and sister have internet phone to call me for free from the US, you might look into that too.

Get a good map of the local area when you get there. The first few weeks I didn’t dare leave the house. My new wife was at work, I was in a strange country I didn’t know and I had to fend for myself. Go for lots of walks.

Congratulations to both of you, I hope your journey goes well and you settle again quickly.

  27. Kelly August 29, 2010

Ooh, yay! Congrats and good luck with the moving!

    Congrats!!!

    Pet vaccines?

I agree with shutting everything off.

Also, I suggest doing anything you can’t in NZ and maybe buying snacks and stuff that you won’t be able to get over there.
