Viv’s Birthday!

I can’t believe it’s October already.

Today was my mother-in-law’s birthday! It was a nice day of celebration and fun and a lot of friends came over for a little party. Josh and I got her some compost for her garden because that’s what she wanted. It may sound silly but it made her really happy so that’s all that matters. We got her the really good compost, too. Josh and I decided to also get her a new set of seat covers for her car since hers were a bit old and tattered. I think she liked them. I think she would have liked the ones I picked out better but Josh won that argument and we got the ones he wanted. I picked out the card, though!

Banana Chocolate Muffins
I made chocolate banana cupcakes and they were very tasty. It was the first time I cooked with adorable little paper things on the cupcakes. Usually when I make them I just grease the muffin tin! I think it made them look even tastier being all cute like that. Don’t you think?

Viv's Cake
The cake was really good, too. Viv’s best friend Raewyn brought it over.

The best part of the day was when Josh took me outside of town tonight and we watched the sun set and I got to see all the stars. Living in New York, stars are somewhat of a rarity – at least to this degree. I really enjoyed looking at the stars. I also saw the Milky Way which is definitely not visible where I’m from.

I even saw a shooting star!

Do you wish on candles and shooting stars?
I always do.

And yes, shooting stars, candles and tips of pie pieces…all need wishes.

  3. I always just grease the pan too when making cupcakes! lol. I always mean to pick up the little paper things, but forget :( They look/sound really good though!

  4. So happy to hear that you’re settling in down there! It must have been such a huge and abrupt change.

Also nice that your in-laws are so darn friendly!

(PS–props for spelling ‘favourite’ correctly in your last entry! We’ve been doing it like that in Canada forever ;) )

  5. Mmmm cupcakes! I always wish on candles and shooting stars. Corey never does. It makes me sad. I always want to maintain childish wonderment and faith in my life.

Isn’t the milky way beautiful? :)

  6. Sounds like a fun celebration! It’s funny — but I often get my grandmother compost for her birthday too. It’s during spring time and that’s what she asks for. :)

I always wish on candles & shooting stars! I saw a shooting star just the other night.. and I made a really good wish. :)

  7. I am glad to hear that your mother-in-law had a good birthday, and cupcakes sound so yummy right now. :)

  11. Aww, it’s so awesome you guys are finally over there and settling in so wonderfully well. I want to go over there after uni, and travel there before uni. It’s a fantastic country. I would love some of that cake but it always goes to my big bum, hah.

  12. Oooh, I usually just like greasing the tray too, no need for fancy stuff. Unless it’s a party of course. :D Happy birthday to Viv! :)

I always wish on candles. I don’t really wish on stars unless it’s the first one I see – I don’t thoroughly believe the wishes will come true though! :P

  13. oh my goodness. i absolutely refuse to make cupcakes or muffins without those little paper things! It’s just not the same otherwise!! i love looking at the stars. i used to sit outside in my backyard (here in NZ) for hours with blankets wrapped around me and just stare up at the night sky. i often see shooting stars and satellites.. but i saw the most amazing shooting star/meteor in croatia a few months ago! it had a big orange burning tail and everything!! it was soooo beautiful!!

  14. The cupcakes look fantastic. Are you the type to make moist cupcakes? Those drive me nuts. Great, I think I have given myself a chocolate craving!

Happy birthday to your mother-in-law and I’m glad that she had a wonderful celebration in the presence of her loved ones.
