The sky is beautiful.

I’ve been getting a lot more comments since I started blogging in full force again. I guess New Zealand is more exciting than when I blogged in New York. Or maybe everyone just likes the NZ pictures? The world may never know why.

New Zealand definitely is beautiful. One thing I’ve especially noticed is the amount of absolute beauty I see when I look up. I’ve seen more amazing things in the sky than I’ve seen in a long time.

Maui's Ropes
Maui’s Ropes. This penomenon comes from a Maori folktale about how Maui tamed the sun. Maybe I’ll try to tell it one day. Josh told it to me and I loved it.

Rainbow!
I have seen more rainbows since I got here than I’ve seen in my entire life. It’s absolutely beautiful and it makes me wish it would rain more (and I hate rain)!

Beautiful Sunset
There is a pretty sunset every night, it seems.

Sunbeams
I took this photo as we were driving home last night. I made Josh pull over. I wanted to capture the sun all the way behind the clouds but we didn’t pull over in time. I think it still came out alright.

Just pretend there is a beautiful photo of the night sky here with millions and billions of stars visible. I’ve seen a lot of that too and I love it.

Do you look up at the sky a lot?
What is your favorite thing to see in the sky?

  1. You’d be surprised, blogging often can get you a lot more comments than normal. Or just commenting other sites in general.

Wow, you live in New Zealand? That’s amazing! I’ve been interested in NZ ever since I seen Lord of the Rings; the scenery was breathtaking (honestly, before I don’t think I even knew it existed). I would love to visit there one day.

    You’re a lovely photographer. :) Thought I’d mention that.

As far as the sky goes, I love to just look at stars.

  2. I love looking at the clouds, trying to figure out what they look like. It really does make my fantasy run wilde :)

  3. I live your photos, so pretty. Im happy to hear that you’re loving NZ so much. I would live to see some photos if the night sky there if you get the chance. I googled for photos when you mentioned seeing the Milky Way and it’s made me realllllly want to visit there.

  4. I love the sky too – one of my favourite memories is of driving back though Germany on a school trip and having to stop in the dead of night in a tiny lay by for an emergency. There were no lights anywhere, and the sky was beautiful – there were so many stars and for the first time I saw the milky way. Mind blowing.

I also love the Maui story – when I was little my dad wrote down all of those stories for me to read or him to tell me at bedtime. Get Josh to tell you the one about how the Kiwi lost the ability to fly, if he knows it.

  5. I always get more comments as well when I blog more often, but when I hit a block and don’t blog for say 5 days then it drops again.

New Zealand seems beautiful, I’m always looking up at the sky here in Vancouver and it honestly seems so much more beautiful than back home in Arkansas. Maybe we’re biased because we’re in different places than we’re used to or perhaps everything really is more beautiful than the places we’re from, I don’t really know, but the sky seems bluer here in Vancouver than Arkansas. *shrugs*

  6. Sounds like you’ve having a great adventure in New Zealand, Caity! I love your pictures. I don’t look up at the sky as often as I used to, as a teenager I would often look up and think what was looking down. These days I don’t seem to find the time to do so anymore, but your photography has inspired me to enjoy every day, each sunset.

  7. WOW those are some amazing views, Caity! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Can’t wait to read more about your new adventure in New Zealand. I have an Indonesian friend there in Wellington and from her pictures it looks absolutely gorgeous there. :D

  8. My favorite thing to see in the sky is DOUBLE RAINBOWS… OMG Have you seen any?!!

    <3

  9. These are all gorgeous, but that first picture really gets to me. I want that on my wall!

  10. New Zealand is gorgeous. I am so jealous. I hope to one day visit.

  11. I think we’re just all glad to see that you made it there safely and are adjusting :)

Love looking up at the sky. The prairies are a lot like NZ (from what I can see in the pictures); in fact the motto of Saskatchewan is “Land of the Living Skies.”

It’s easy for it to pass you by when you live in it, so I’m glad you’re taking the time to notice and have reminded me to do the same!

  12. I like the pretty pictures, and hearing the stories of your new adventure. It’s like we’re there with you experiencing this.

I love to look at the stars in the sky, but unfortunately I live in a city, so they’re kind of hard to see. My Dad and I go to the planetarium sometimes to see the shows, and one is called Tonight’s Sky, so you can see the sky that night without all the city lights in the way. They also have a huge telescope that you can look through, I saw Saturn once.

  13. Caitlin's MOM

I love the photo of the rainbow! It reminds me of your wedding day! Remember the double rainbow? Miss you! Lots of Love, Mom

  14. Caity — You are becoming an expert at your challenge. These are wonderful pictures and I love that you are sharing them. It’s nice to get to know the landscape of New Zealand.

    Keep it up Photo Zealander:~)

  15. In Japan, the sunsets were ALWAYS gorgeous. I wonder if it’s something to do with that side of the world
