Taking Baylee to the bay!

Once again, it was a beautiful day outside so I decided that I needed to do something outdoors today. Sure, it’s not the same as my gorgeous New Zealand walks but it was nice to get outdoors. I decided that I was going to go for a nice long walk. I took Baylee with me! If you don’t remember me talking about Baylee, she’s my parent’s golden retriever.

Baylee and Me

Baylee is quite out of shape. I guess it’s good to know that there’s someone around that is more out of shape than me now. If you haven’t been keeping up with my fitness and weight loss journey over at caityfit.com, let me take this opportunity to tell you that I’ve been doing quite well, especially lately.

Baylee

So with Baylee panting and me basically dragging her at points, we finally made it to the bay. My dad’s love of the bay and all things marine is where Baylee’s name comes from. No, she’s not named after the alcholol Bailey’s… she is named after the bay itself. We often have to explain.

West Sayville Dock

It was an absolutely gorgeous day and I was glad that I got out of my house and went down to the water today. Baylee was, too, even though I think that it almost killed her. She was excited to get out of the house and go on an adventure and when we got there I let her rest for a while before we came back home.

Baylee

Baylee appreciated the rest even more, I think. She looked out over the bay with a happy, dopey look on her face while she panted heavily. I can imagine she wanted to drink the sea water but I know it would not have helped her much. She tried multiple times to run into the water but I knew that it wasn’t a good idea on this particular day. Perhaps another day, Baylee. I’m sure we’ll come here again.

West Sayville Dock

She pooped as we left the dock and I had to carry her lovely present all the way back home. Of course it was garbage day and the garbage had already been picked up. I wasn’t going to put Baylee’s poo in someone else’s garbage can right after their garbage had just been taken away! What kind of a citizen am I? When I came home and told my mom about that she confessed that I was a better citizen than she was because she would have dropped the poop into the first garbage she saw. Hey, at least we clean up our dog’s poop, right? Do you?

How is the weather by you?

  1. I think it’s gross not to clean up after animals. It’s just.. ew. People need to respect public areas. I’m glad you had a nice walk with Baylee.

  2. You’re a better citizen than my neighbors. Most just open the door and let the dogs out, then shout at them for half an hour to get back inside. They don’t pick up the poo, so now that the snow is melting there are all these piles in various states of decomposition in the yard. It’s gross, and I’m sure you wanted to know that, too. lol.

The weather here was amazing today, in the sixties!! Too bad I had to work through it all, but it was nice to see the sun when I left.

Glad you had a nice walk, maybe Baylee needs to join you on some more in the future. :)

  3. We ALWAYS pick up after Monte when we go on walks! How can you not?

  4. Aw, Baylee is such a pretty dog. She looks so happy – I’m sure she enjoyed her romp. :) In answer to your question, oh yes, I am an avid pooper scooper. I bring along a shopping bag, wear it like a glove to pick up the poop, and then turn it back in so it’s inside what was originally the outside, and then I tie the top of the bag. If I’m walking around the neighborhood and it’s trash day, I’ll go ahead and leave the bag in a can, since it’s full and about to be emptied anyway. Otherwise, I’m the good girl that takes the poop home with her, heh.

  5. Looks like Baylee had a great time, and some nice long walks would be great for her in the future. I love her name, just as pretty as she is.

When we had our beagle Andrew and I always picked up after her. At our new place we are constantly reminding our neighbors to pick up after their dogs, I even bought them pooper scoopers. I know they get frustrated when I remind them as they’re walking away to pick up the poop, but that’s a communal area in our neighborhood and everyone deserves to be able to walk through the grass without worrying about stepping in something.

  6. Aw looks like Baylee had a lovely time! You’ve definitely a lot better then a lot of people I know locally, the amount of people who don’t scoop is disgusting! I don’t have a dog, but if I did I’d definitely clean up after it..

  7. It’s drizzled at home today! It’s unusual because it keeps stopping and starting again. And now the sun is out a little.

Sounds like you and Baylee had a good time! That was very respectable of you to clean up after her. A lot of people don’t, leaving their dog’s waste on the road or in a public place. I went to a dog show and they were trying to promote cleaning up your dog’s poop. They even gave out these cute little pouches (with a dog face painted on them) for free, designed to store some plastic bags. :P

  8. I demand more baylee posts!
Buffy’s outta shape too. The first five minutes of her walk, she can’t go fast enough and we jog and then after that she’s exhausted and I gotta drag her along. She loves pooping in the woods, so usually we take the scooper, pick it up and throw it back further where no one’s gonna walk. Last time we had to bring it home to throw away though as it was awfully mushy. Hey, you asked.

  9. Mom - Cathy

I’m really glad you had such a nice walk with Baylee. The photos you took are great! ~ When Dad & I take Baylee for her walk it’s 20 minutes tops! ~ You were gone for well over an hour! I didn’t think Baylee would ever stop panting when you returned! ~ I guess we have to get her in better shape! ~ She needs needs more walks with YOU! ~ Love, Mom xoxo

  10. Baylee looks so happy! :D She’s certainly changed a lot since I remember seeing you posting photos of her as a puppy.

But good for you for doing your part as a dog carer in regards to her poop – people in my neighbourhood only pick up dog poop if there’s people around. Does not make for pleasant shortcuts through my own front yard!

  11. People not picking up their dog’s poo is actually a good way to spread worms to people. There are some that like to grab onto human hosts via their bare feet. (ick!)

I miss walks on the beach. Maybe one of these days I’ll go down to the gulf and get my ocean fix. :)

  12. The weather is nice here. :)

That beach looks lovely … I don’t really see much of beaches here! Ahahh. I live … hours away.

  13. I love your photos! So pretty!! The beach looks so calm and peaceful.

    Baylee is soo cute!!!

  14. Baylee looks just like my friends dog, Buddy. My dog is also getting up there in age. She’s in “Perfect Health” according to the doctor, but she’s no puppy. She used to play ball all the time, now it’s only when she’s in the mood and it’s like three throws and she’s done.

As for picking up poop. lol My dog has an invisible fence, she doesn’t do well with people and other animals. She’s a good dog, but she likes to bark at EVERYTHING. So, she just goes outisde pretty much whenever she needs to do business, we don’t pick it up but it’s in our yard. Not a public place or anything. I think it’s gross when especially those big dog’s stuff, is everywhere.

  15. Aww, Baylee looks like a real heart breaker ^^ What a lovely beach, makes me wish I lived within walking distance of the sea.

  16. aww, your dog is adorable. i really need to take my pup out, her belly is starting to get a little big haha.

  17. Looks like a nice walk!

  18. I’ve always loved golden retrievers. THey’re such good dogs, beautiful.

Loved your pictures. I need to get out walking too, now that the weather is getting nicer (regardless of our random SPRING SNOW). Hmph.

  19. Haha I have to admit I woulda dropped it in the first can I saw as well.

Your dog is so awesome :) Beautiful doggy! *hugs* I wish I could get one. Specifically a pug!! :D

  20. Aww what a cute doggy! Glad you had such a lovely walk :)

  21. Baylee is such a cutie! : ) My parents have goldens. They are the best dogs ever!
