Shhhhh!

1 Mar

I was the substitute for the librarian today. I got to put books away according to the Dewey Decimal System and it made me happy. I also got to tell people “Shhhhhhh, this is a library.” It was awesome. Hey, wouldn’t you do that if you were given the chance? I was also happy that I wore my glasses instead of my contacts today because I even got to look up from what I was doing at people from over my glasses, too! All of the librarian stereotypes complete!

Shhh! This is a library! (by caitysparkles)

I also had to tell one kid that he had an overdue book from October so he couldn’t stay in the library during his lunch period (which is a privilege). I felt bad because he is a nice boy and I know he was just going to do his work but… October is a long time to have an overdue book.

Now isn’t a good time to mention that I have two overdue books from my public library that were due in November, is it? Maybe that is why I felt so guilty for sending him away. Yup… the truth always comes out.

Caity the librarian! It sounds like you had fun. :) Poor kid, but if he isn’t taught the repercussions of keeping a library book out too late now, then he might end up having to as a substitute librarian.

Being a librarian for a day sounds like it was fun. I like quiet places sometimes.

That is awesome! I never subbed for the librarian when I was a substitute. I was mostly in the band room, trying to be heard over 70+ instruments XD

That’s an awesome way to spend the day. I used to think it would be a dream job to spend a day in a place with all those books, and all that peacefulness, but then figured out that librarians don’t spend their entire day reading – what a deception! You certainly looked the part! It must be exciting (to some extent) to be a different character each day, librarian, English teacher, math teacher…. They don’t have you do lunch duty do they? I think I would not want to work in the cafeteria of a high school….

Sending your postcard out today! Hope you like it

Hahaha, that is rough on that kid, man! I’d have let him stay (if I wouldn’t be caught and punished somehow that is). ;) I mean, if he was a good kid and I knew he’d work (and warned him very thoroughly that he should consider himself enormously privileged that I was breaking the rules just for him!). If he wasn’t going to I would say “too bad”, of course :P

I haven’t borrowed books from a public library since I was little. I lost my first library card approximately two weeks after getting it, then found it two years or so later… then promptly lost my entire wallet including the card the very next day. :| I tend not to have problems with overdue books for that very reason. Not that I really have problems with losing things anyway, only library cards! I borrowed books from my school library in year seven (I think!) but I always returned them :)

I always had overdue books when I was in middle school. But our librarian wasn’t very nice at all. She was the elderly, mean librarian stereotype to a T.

You might have gotten some of the stereotypes down, but you still win ’cause you’re a cute Librarian!

That sounds fun! You’ve reminded me of my school’s library, which I loved (though the book selection wasn’t too good, the space was great). Overdue books – yep, been there. It was a long time ago though so mum paid the fee.

I can’t take books out from libraries because I’m just so bad about returning them. If Netflix had a due date, I’d be in their bad graces as well.

That reminds me, I have a few books that are due this week that I have to renew! The library has saved me from spending hundreds of dollars on books I would only read once. I think my husband is grateful for that. :)

I’ve always thought it would be awesome to be a librarian! What a great day of subbing for you! :)

Oooh I’m jealous! I’d love to be a librarian!

sounds like you had a fun day.

i’m pretty bad about returning books to the library.

I know you’re the coolest librarian that school has ever seen!

That is the reason I don’t even have a library card – I’d SO forget to return everything – but I do dream of getting one soon so I get to spend time doing something else than WoW and Sims…

Did you wear your hair in a tight bun, or is that more a secretary stereotype?

Librarians are awesome. I say “shhh, this is a library” to other students all the time! :P You’ve reminded me that I have an overdue book, too…

Haha, that’s awesome! Sounds like a fun subbing day for sure. :D I always thought it would be oodles of fun to work in a library. Unfortunately, getting a job at the ones around here were always so difficult.

Maybe you can get off with no fines for those books?? :)

And maybe a librarian is your true calling? You look like a natural.
