I finally got myself a job here in New Zealand. For now, I’m working in a local supermarket stacking shelves in the dairy department. I’m happy. I’m out here meeting people in a new country and I have a full time job in an economy that isn’t the best. That’s a success if you ask me. I love it so far even if it has interfered with my blogging time and tired me out quite a bit! Ha!

A couple weeks ago, Josh’s dad came to visit us. We took a day trip to a place called Kaiteriteri. It is a beautiful beach.

Soon I will run out of pictures but definitely not yet…

This beach is a very busy one in the summer time (which is actually around the holidays here on the other side of the world). The town that I live in is also a crazy tourist attraction during the summer months. Right now it’s really quiet around this region but the population apparently triples or something when the warmer weather comes around.

My point is… the beach was really quiet while we were there. The weather was still really nice, though. Just some pants and a sweater and it’s a beautiful place to walk around. Why wouldn’t you? We were the only people in the whole place practically and it was such a peaceful place to be.

The sand is gorgeous. People love the sand here at this beach. I think Long Island has good sand too (that’s one of my favourite things about Fire Island’s beaches) but this sand was pretty special and I can see why people love it.

I was amazed at all the shells. I grew up around beaches all my life but I never saw the multitude of amazing shells that I did on this beach. They were all beautiful and perfect and the most intricate and different kinds of shells that I had ever seen. Josh and his dad were laughing at me because every half a second I was bending over shouting “HEY GUYS LOOK AT THIS SHELL OH MY GOSH!!!”

It started to drizzle as you can start to see by the raindrops on the lens here. Yay, sunshower! We didn’t even see it coming!

One last candid shot taken by Josh. I know it’s a bit sad because the seagull has lost his foot but you also can’t help but think of the seagulls in Finding Nemo screaming “MINE!! MINE!! MINE!!” can’t you? It makes me laugh.

I want to come back here when the weather is nice but we’ll have to time it when there aren’t heaps of people because one of the things I loved about it was the serenity and I bet heaps of people will take away from that just a little bit, don’t you think?

  1. Congrats on getting a job :) And good for you for looking on the bright side of things, many others would be upset that it’s not in their field rather than thinking that they’re blessed to have gotten a full time job, in any field.

Gorgeous beach. It’s amazing to think that Josh and his dad are used to seeing pretty shells yet it’s a novelty to you! Are you going to be using any to decorate around the house?

Love the poor one-footed seagull. (And I *do* see the Finding Nemo reference! I loved that movie, I should rewatch it again sometime soon.)

  2. Congrats on the job :D You’re right – it is great to have a job, any job, at this time. And for some reason it’s always easier to get a new job if you already have one.

That beach look amazing! And look at all those shells, so cool. Our beaches are mostly just covered in pine trees and driftwood… :P

  3. Congrats on the job! As long as you enjoy the work and are happy, that’s all that matters!

  4. Congrats on the job!! And wow those pictures are amazing!

Glad you are enjoying your job. Once you get used to working again, you probably won’t be as tired! ~ I love all your photos! New Zealand certainly does have many beautiful places! ~ Love, Mom

  6. Hooray for a job!! I know exactly how it feels to be gainfully employed after a lull :-)
