Moko

Who knew that something this adorable could produce something so foul smelling? Moko has always been an indoor cat and that’s okay. She’s a timid and shy little thing (although more recently she has been quite the curious little adventure cat, but that’s a story for another day). I’ve been living in the den that my parents often use for a guest room since I gave up my room to my younger sister when I moved out and her room is basically a storage closet now. The little room I live in for the time being is quite small and right now it has a large fouton, a piano, and a computer desk in it. Oh, and my cat’s litter box. There’s not much room for anything else. The door doesn’t even open the entire way and I have to turn sideways every time I want to leave the room.

Now, I’m not complaining. I don’t need anything more than what I have and I’m absolutely fortunate to have what I do have. However, I will complain about the stench when my cat has to use her litterbox. It’s already stifling out here in this tiny room. Since when did anything silly like this stop me, though? For every problem in life, there is always a solution – some more obvious than others.

For this current dilemma of my little living area smelling a bit gross and the air being quite stagnant (even with frequent changes to Moko’s little cat box) I decided to get myself a nice candle! I went to the outlets with my friend Kierstin and her sister Kayla last night and managed to score an amazing deal on a huge Yankee Candle. They even had one of my favourite scents – Egyptian Cotton (my other favourite being Fresh Linen).

My living space smells SO amazing now. Although Moko did almost catch herself on fire trying to investigate the foreign object I put in her domain without asking her. I should be more careful to disrupt the Queen Moko next time.

Along with my candle, I found another gem! Another journal! (Yes, I know… me and my journals… I just bought another one about a week and a half ago but I love them oh so much.)

Claymation Cheshire Cat!

How can you say no to claymation Alice In Wonderland, though?

Claymation Alice In Wonderland

Especially when it was on sale in the Disney Store outlet for less than 3 dollars?

  1. Oh I love candles! We have the Tropical Bahamas or something going right now from Yankee Candles. Every time you go in the room is smells like a tropical drink! :D

Also, what helps with cat box smell (ours is in a hallway) we have a hooded box that has an insert in the top for a charcoal filter. The filter really does help a lot, I can always tell when it’s time to change it, as you really can’t smell the box until then. I don’t know if Moko will like using a covered box, some cats won’t.

    • Yankee Candle has the best candles! I could spend eternity in their store just standing there smelling all the candles!

Yes, Moko used to have one with a cover but she didn’t like it. I bet it would help, too. Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. I LOVE the hydrangea candles from Yankee Candle! It’s too bad they’re usually way out of my price range.

    • Yeah the main problem with Yankee Candle is that they’re so expensive. I got this huge one for $15. They’re usually $25!

  3. My cat is a very very stinky cat! We have her litterbox in the laundry room of our apartment which is attached to our kitchen (which is attached to our living area). When she needs to go, oh my sweet goodness does she ever stink! I finally bought febreeze spray for the times when I can handle it. Usually I use the febreeze candles (meadow and rain) but that just isn’t quick enough. So I do feel your pain! lol

And I love the journal!! I have about 4 of them around that aren’t even written in and every time I want to use one I talk myself out of it because I want to make sure it’s not wasting it. But I’ve decided to get over it and am going to take one when we go away next month to start as a thoughts and ideas journal. I have a weird addiction to stationary, especially journals!

    • Febreze is nice too! A friend of mine actually just bought me Febreze because they made a new scent called New Zealand Springs that is supposed to smell like the south island haha!

Yes, I’m totally addicted to stationary and office supplies!

  4. Oh dear! I love animals, but the smell is the reason keeping me from getting a cat. And the hair. Maybe that more than the smell. But it’s good you found a nice candle to chase the “aromas” away. I’m a big fan of vervena candles myself. I found them at a place called Occitane.

    • Oh, the hair is quite troublesome sometimes but I have the best little lint brush ever that does the trick.

  5. I LOVE those scents from Yankee Candle. And that journal is so adorable. Less than $3? What a score!

  6. Haha cat poop stinks. Do you get the smell-absorbing sort though? They’re a little pricier but TOTALLY worth the difference in price, and they clump up with all the waste to make for easy disposal and scooping out.

I haven’t really been online and reading people’s blogs for most of February, so I had to backtrack yours to find out why you’re back home again. I hope all is well <3.

    • I actually do get the smell absorbing litter but it just doesn’t do enough since my room is so tiny and the air gets so stagnant.

Thanks, dear. Things are going much better. <3

  7. I have three smelly cats… and oh, the smell they can produce on a bad day!

But since swapping for a fully organic, homemade diet (cat food brands tend to add sugar to the food and sugar -> smelly poop in my cats’ case), their poop hasn’t smelled nearly as bad!

    I’ve also noticed that having green plants in the room that the cat poopsidaisies in helps with the stench! I can’t try the candles at all because they’re the “ohhhh, what’s this? Oh, it BURNS. OW. *pokes again* OW! *pokes* OW!!!” sort and they’ll just end up getting third degree burns if there’s a candle anywhere near them. ;_;

    • Ooh, I could only imagine having 3! That must be quite stinky. Ahh, I didn’t even think of the food helping. It helps humans so why wouldn’t it help cats. That is an amazing suggestion. I never thought of plants either! You are full of amazing ideas, thanks!

Haha, yes cats are curious little creatures aren’t they?

  8. Oh my gosh, that’s ridiculously cute. I have a few cute journals but I never really used them because I just deemed them ‘too cute to use’! I am now using one, since I lost my phone and need to get really organised. xD

I’m glad you’re happy with what you’ve got even though it’s not fantastic. Often I have thought about how lucky I am to have internet access, a family, food, and a roof over my head. Sometimes it’s the little things… even if it’s just the funny stench of a much-loved pet. :)

    • That is often my problem. I have stacks of journals that I don’t know what to do with because I am saving them for something, haha!

Thanks, I think it’s really important that we are thankful for what we have. The little things are so important in life and we so often overlook them.

  9. Mom - Cathy

I love the scent of your new candle! AND, I have to agree with you . . . your room DEFINITELY does smell much better now! ~ Moko can produce quite a stench, but . . . she is such a cutie! ~ Love, Mom

    • Yes, Mom! I know that because you tell me every time you come to this part of the house!! Moko is cute even if she tried to steal your dinner last night!!

  10. glad the candle works! just don’t set the room on fire! or kitty. kitty on fire would be bad.

    • Thanks! Yes, it would be very, very bad! I blow it out whenever I am not here or when I go to bed, don’t worry!

  11. Nice choice on the journals! I’m an Alice in Wonderland enthusiast so I’m kind of biased, though :P

  12. I LOVE Yankee candles!!

  13. I absolutely LOVE Yankee Candle! My favorite scent is Fresh Linen, too :D

  14. Thanks for the nice comment on my site! :) It’s so nice how you think so positively. You are very inspiring. I mean, to be living in such a smelly and cramped area, and still be able to think positively is really role model material. I praise you for being able to do that! ^^

I’m glad you found the solution to your problem. Optimism always seems to pay off.

    The journal is very cute!

Keep up the positive thinking! ^_^

    • Oh, thank you so much! That really means a lot! :)

I do really try to be optimistic. What I live by is “Make your optimism come true!”

  15. Okay that journal is SO SO SO cute! Also, I love Yankee Candle but can’t afford them even on sale, HAH. As for the cat.. what food do you feed him? The higher quality the food, the less he will stink.. though you can’t keep poop from stinking completely, hah.

    • Yeah, I splurged on the candle (I did get it on a really great sale at the outlets) but I guess what I should splurge on is better cat food. I bet it would make all the difference. I feed Moko decent cat food but I bet I could find better stuff if I really did my research.

  16. I love Yankee Candles. A friend of mine got me the milk and cookies years ago and I fell in love.

I just wish they were a little cheaper. :D

    • Ooh, I don’t like the baked ones. I don’t know why but they just smell so weird to me. Maybe it I smelled it at someone’s house and didn’t know it was a candle I would think differently haha.

Yeah, they are really expensive. I couldn’t get them if it wasn’t on sale.
