Josh has been telling me about one of his favourite places in New Zealand for years now. Castle Point. We finally took a trip there yesterday and it was absolutely amazing! We did a lot of walking and climbing and my feet are quite sore, but it was all worth it in the end.
I took a lot of photos, so if you’d like to see the rest of them, please visit my Castle Point Flickr Set. :)
I picked out some of my favourite photos for you.

This dog was running really fast along his owner’s car. It was really adorable.

At high tide, boats will launch from inside this little gap since it’s calmer in there than launching right out into the ocean.

What are all those little white things? SEAGULLS! Or, as I like to call them, flying rats.

That’s my MIL and her best friend Raewyn there.

Castle Rock. WE CLIMBED THIS. This photo doesn’t do justice to just how high it really was. Okay… so I only went up about a 5th of the way but I still tried!! Josh went on ahead with his mom and I went back down with Raewyn. Josh actually went all the way to the top, too!

Up on Castle Rock. Awesome view.

There goes Josh leaning over cliffs again.

See the lighthouse all the way in the distance? This photo would be perfect if Josh’s hair didn’t get in the way.

It’s hard not to get your hair in the shot when your hair looks like THIS! Epic! At least his amazing hairdo takes away from the fact that I look like an absolute moron with that hat on.

There were some HUGE charter boats out there. I stood by one for you so you can get an idea of the scale.

We had a really nice picnic but the seagulls invited themselves too so I was a bit upset. I really, really hate seagulls. Damn flying rats. Raewyn kept feeding them, too. She’s too nice. There was one seagull that had a broken leg and she named him Hoppy and kept trying to trick the other seagulls so that Hoppy could get the most food. Unfortunately, Hoppy didn’t know this and was just as confused as the rest of his little buddies.

We climbed to the top of the lighthouse after lunch.

Holy crap. It definitely was windy. There I am climbing up the top there, nearly falling over into the sea.

BEWARE! These rocks are dangerous!

Viv and Raewyn admiring the beauty.

And my favourite shot of the entire day.
Make sure you take a look at the rest of the photos if you liked these. :)

The disabled seagull is only going to end up more disabled if everyone decides to take pity on it and feed it more than the other seagulls! It’ll be a chubby one-legged seagull!
The “Home of the Lost Soles” is an awesome idea. The amount of shoes I have left on the beach in my lifetime could fill that pole! Hehe.
That looks like a really peaceful and serene place. Love all the pictures. Thanks for taking me to the beach with you :D
Castle Point is gorgeous! I can see why it’s one of Josh’s favorite places.
I think these are my favorite shots so far! But EVERYTHING there is so beautiful. I’m totally jealous of your adventure!
I LOVE the last pic, hehe. Too funny!
Can I just say that New Zealand is amazingly, breathtakingly beautiful? I want to move there now!
It’s all so beautiful! I’ve never seen a lighthouse up close, let alone in real life before. Just in pictures/movies/etc. :( The beach looked so clean, too. It would be nice if there a was a clean beach somewhere in Texas. :)
I don’t have a job a yet, because no one is really hiring. :( And I’m nineteen, but even with that, there aren’t clubs here in Wills Point. It’s a small town with a lot of people. And I can’t go to bars, LOL. :P
I love your photos, and I think you look cute in the hat! ~ The sand looks so much darker than the sand we have here! It’s interesting! ~ Hope you continue to enjoy your adventures in New Zealand! Love to Josh and Viv! Love, Mom
Love the pictures! So beautiful. Maybe someday my dream of going to NZ will come true.
You always take the most amazing pictures!
Caity — I am loving the pictures. You are doing an excellent job of showing me, and others, the beauty of New Zealand. My favorite was the last one about he “lost soles.” That’s great:~)
I couldn’t think fast enough this morning to do the book post, but I’ll back and give it a try later when my brain is more fully awake!!!
p.s. I liked the picture of you and Josh! You look happy…but also cold.
