Searching for more blog friends.

People definitely take sports really seriously. I had a bunch of people unsubscribe from my blog after I made my last post about going to see a Yankee game. At first I was insulted. Can you really judge someone by what sports team you like? It’s not like I blog about the Yankees all the time and it’s not even like my post was all about the Yankees and how great they are. In fact, the main part of my post was about photography. Oh well. I guess some people actually take it that seriously.

I have been searching for new blogs to read lately. I already follow a whole bunch in my RSS reader but every few months I get the urge to read new blogs. I love making new blog friends. I tried becoming more active in some blogging communities that I know about and I went and commented on some random blogs in hopes that I’d make some blog friends. How do you make new blog friends?

Oh, another new layout, too. I couldn’t help myself. I just love minimal layouts.

  1. Every week or so I go through the blogs I read and click on the commenter’s sites and because of this I’m subscribed to almost 200 of them!
One of my friends from college is a huge Yankees fan. I have nothing against them, but then again I don’t really pay much attention to baseball. I like the minor leagues a little better because their tickets are affordable. :) But, I think it would great to see a major league game and it looks like you had a great time!
I like the new layout too :)

  2. Aww thats silly, why would anyone unsubscribe just because of a post you wrote. Some people are very strange.
I do exactly the same as ^ and look at the commenters blogs :)

  3. Are you serious about the Yankees thing… I guess it really doesn’t fit in my head because I don’t care about sport.

Anyway to the question. I don’t actually try actively make blog friends but occasionally I am wild and go to comment new blogs that I find interesting for a reason or another. I think most of the blog friends I have made thru couple forums fairly accidentally.

ps. I like the new layout and especially I love the letterpress effect in blue heart :D

  4. Well hello there! Thanks so much for commenting on my blog. I’m in the same boat too, looking for new blogs to read as I just can’t get enough! I’m adding you to my Reader, hope you don’t mind! (And I love this layout.)

  5. I think it goes beyond taking sports seriously. You should be perfectly able to take something seriously while respecting and embracing someone else’s opinions. It’s called being mature. If they unsubscribed to your blog they were probably not worth your time to begin with.

I don’t know what kind of blogs you enjoy reading about, but I’ll share one of my favorites with you: http://qtmama.wordpress.com. Check it out; her wit and humor are entertaining and very much worth the read… not to mention that the things that happen to her are sometimes movie-worth!

  6. You are more than welcome to read mine! I relish making new friends.

  7. Thanks for checking out my page! I agree with the commenter above who said it’s silly that people unsubscribe to your blog because of a sports team. I’m not really into baseball so much, so I don’t feel the passion that some feel about it, but I still just think its silly. :)

  8. I think it is silly too.

Someone did that to me, because of NCAA Basketball. I said that I was cheering for UK, and they were cheering for Duke. Even though, they are the biggest rivals, I just made a simple comment. I never even posted anything about UK on my blog whatsoever.

  9. I’m literally rolling my eyes at the Yankees nonsense… how immature can you get?! Gosh.

I love comment-hopping to find new blogs. That said, I kinda suck at making actual blog-friends. Maybe if I posted more than once a week…

  10. What?! I don’t think it’d ever even occur to me that someone might unsubscribe over my favourite sports team o_O Good thing I never mention that on my blog, I guess.

I love this new layout! The soft blues and soft lines everywhere are so pretty :)

  11. I feel like my subscribers change for really random reasons. I think it has more to do with if they are using their readers for some of them…

I’ve found a lot of blogger friends via the 101 in 1001 challenge (actually I think that is how I came across your blog!) and now that I’m book blogging, I talk to other book bloggers a lot too. So for me, I guess it has been easier to pick a “type” of blogging and go from there :)

  12. Unsubscribing because you support a different SPORTS TEAM..?! Oh, for f… that’s ridiculous!! o_O’ I’m going to stop reading you now because you’re not of the same religion or nationality as I am… NOT. >_<'

Unfortunately, Caity, most of my blogroll are people you already read and the rest are in Finnish or Swedish, so… sorry! No can helpie.

  13. I hate the Yankees but you can’t help it probably. It’s a minor character flaw. Ha! Just kidding (not about hating the Yankees, the character flaw thing).

Anyway, love the layout! I’m a fan of the minimal look as well.

  14. They unsubed because of a sports blog post?! LAME!

  15. I just cleaned my reader out but you were a keeper! Although I cried a little that you’re a Yankee fan :). As a solid Diamondbacks fan I must hold on to the fact that we beat your Yanks in 2001…too bad that’s all we’ve got to hold on too from he last 9 years lol.

PS I love the new post, I can’t wait till I can do things like this too…hurry up education :)

  16. WHAAAA!? Just because you like the Yankees some people would unsubscribe from you? That’s mind boggling. O_o;;

  17. Caity, how dare you make a blog post about attending a Yankee’s game and talk about photography. How absurd! You should be stoned!

Of course I jest. How silly and immature can you get. I dig the new layout :) It refreshing.

  18. Wow… I’m sorry!

I’m most definitely not a sports fan, but I wouldn’t unsubscribe to someone’s blog because they made a post talking about sports… I think the only thing that would bother me would be in-your-face trash talking, being mean, etc.

  19. I like it! Very clean. I have pretty much stopped reading new blogs. I will only click over or add one to my GR now if one of the people I REALLY LOVE mentions them explicitly in a post. Otherwise, it quickly overwhelms me. I’ve been hitting unsubscribe oftener and oftener and it’s very freeing for me…

  20. i just check out blogs, click on links, and add ‘em to my bookmarks. i check in occasionally for updates and comment on the ones i have something to comment about.

    :)

  21. Love the new layout! I’m the same way! I like to read, and read, and read! I just go to other blogs I follow and check out their link list! Sometimes you only find a few new blogs, but if they’ve updated in the past few days I’ll usually add them to my reader!

  22. That’s just stupid that they unsuscribed because of a sport related post! When I’m looking for some new blogs I tend to start off at one and then follow links through, often find some really good ones that way :)

  23. eh, anyone who would unfollow someone because they blogged about a certain sports team is no one I would want to be friends with anyway.

I usually only visit new blogs when people visit me first. Sometimes, I’ll visit people that commented on someone else’s blog, like yours :D

  24. Oh wow, that sounds pretty ridiculous. I don’t know if I should be hoping it’s just a coincidence, but it doesn’t sound nice if people unsubscribe from your blog after a little mention of sports! :(

I don’t keep track of who subscribes to my blog or bookmarks it. More so I keep track of my visitors. I find that if I don’t update my website, not many people visit. People seem to be interested in the website reviews and content I have on my website. But I ALSO noticed that if I don’t respond to comments, my visitors go down.

Have you noticed other topics not being as popular? :S I seem to get less comments on blogs that are long and have no pictures (I think you’ve mentioned this in a previous blog about types of readers).

As for making friends, I might check out links on other people’s blogs to direct me to other blogs… to be honest I know a lot of people online, so making more friends isn’t something that busies me. I have developed a lot of close friendships with people over the years. :)

  25. I need to add more personal blogs to my rss reader. Though yours is always at the top. (alphabetical ftw!) I dont have any A’s or B’s … lol!

I think it is not that often that you see girls blogging about sports, or teams that they are interested in. I went to a Yankees game when I was in NYC a few years back. Your post made me relive that great memory. Speaking of sports, do you follow Hockey at all?

  26. That’s so lame! I love you even though you like the damn Yankees. There’s more to life than just baseball. Maybe not much more ;-) but a little bit, hehe.

  27. Aw.. People are so low, Caity! Who even want to unsubscribe to you just because you went to a Yankee game? They’re ridiculous!

And don’t worry, you’ve got plenty of readers who love you! (like me! ^-^)

  28. Caity — That’s terrible that people might have unsubscribed because you went to a baseball game!!! Fortunately, as I read through the comments, I can see that you have some wonderful followers who care about you and what you have to say…and not the team you might support.

One of my favorite ways to find new sites is to go to sites I love and then click on someone who commented at that site. Then I read the post, leave a comment and then click on someone who commented on this new site. Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I’ve found some wonderful blogs in doing this:~)

  29. I love finding new blogs, too. One way I do is by clicking through on commenters of blogs I like. We already have something in common, so perhaps I’ll like their blog, too!

  30. Okay first, anyone that chose to not read you anymore because of a sports game is obviously dumb.

    *Pause*

    And male.

Secondly, thanks to my gorgeous Caper for noting me here. How sweet!

  31. As a Red Sox fan, I must say I feel a bit odd commenting, BUT that’s no reason we couldn’t be blog friends. As long as we all agree the Empire is Evil, then everything’s ok. ;)

    HI from SITS.

  32. I’m pretty much the same as lots of others. I try to rollcall on SITS and then take time to read and comment on new blogs. I also joined Southern Mommas and I met a bunch of poeple through them. It’s a slow go for me, but I get a follower or two each week and that makes me happy! :)

  33. That’s crazy that people would unsubscribe over a single post about a sports team!

It’s hard finding a new blog “community”. You must post your tips on doing so along the way!

  34. Hey Caity,
It is good to be here…whether you are a Yankees fan or anything else… And – I too find that commenting on new sites is a great way to develop a new friendship. And just so you know, Caity…it is great to be friends with you!!

  35. Caity, Caity, Caity… Don’t you know you’re not allowed to talk about being a Yankees fan on your blog? Seriously… It’s like a slap in the face to all your readers… Of COURSE they’re going to unsubscribe you for treating them so harshly…

    /sarcasm

<3 the Yankees. If I didn't already have you in my reader, you'd be going in there for the fact that you're a Yankees girl :D

As for blog friends… Don't have much advice since I have very few of them. I need to get out there and try to participate in more blogging communities too.. Though I guess I really should get the actually blogging thing under my belt first.

  36. You must be such an active commenter because you always have so many comments here!
