We all love some sort of candy, right? I used to love waking up on Easter morning and running downstairs to find my basket full of Cadburry Creme Eggs, milk chocolate bunnies, and Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. Having been a vegan for almost nine months now, however, my tune has changed a little bit.

This photo is by by friend Ashleigh. She makes the most beautiful cakes and cupcakes that I will always want to eat even if I’m vegan forever (even if I can’t)!
I bet you’re wondering what I can eat on Easter this year being that all the favorites contain things I don’t eat anymore. Well, I decided that I would make a list of all the common candies that are vegan for you. You know… in case you wanted to buy me or some other vegan an Easter present!

Well, I just LOVE Twizzlers, Jolly Ranchers hard (but NOT the watermelon flavor — LOVE the grape and cherry especially,) and Cracker Jacks. Cracker Jack and soy milk — now there’s a fine fine meal indeed! Oh yeah, um boy. tasty!!
umn, umn, why did iI have to come here BEFORE dinner??
:)
xoxo
And I LOVE this grey city skyline theme, totally!! Love how you’re always changing it up here — fun! Never dull moment on this blog.
xo
Oh yea!!! A candy list–gotta love that:) I was going to name my fav’s but I think most of them are on my list..
Lots of blessings:)
What a great post, I think most of us have this vision of Vegans having NOTHING traditional or mainstream, so this is very informative!
this is awesome! : )
Wow- all that candy (plus cupcakes) made me hungry. Lucky Easter’s tomorrow.
I don’t know how you can stand being a vegan. But, I’m impressed at all the candy you can still eat… I thought it would have been a LOT less. But no chocolate- which is sad- since dark chocolate is my fav!!
That’s dedication. :)
Oh wooooow, that is actually quite a list for vegans! I love Ashleigh’s cupcakes though… absolutely gorgeous. I don’t think I could be vegan though – it’s just that it would be a real challenge for me with the variety of food that I love to eat.
I’ll definitely buy you Skittles one day! And damn, Pez are on sale at the shopping centre near home. If only I could ship you some!
Agree with some of the others who have commented, you kinda just assume that because vegans can’t have any chocolate, they can’t really celebrate Easter in the same way. Plus, giving up Cadburys Creme Eggs must be hard! :P Atleast you get to replace that with skittles etc.. yum!
Good to know a lot of the candy I eat is on there. Not that I will ever be a vegan… heh! But good to know nonetheless
I found you on 20sb!
I never realized how much candy was vegan, and I am so sad you had to give up cadbury eggs, I love those things. We have a lot of vegan places or at least options in the area of Indianapolis I live in, I’m always happy to boast about the several REALLY options we have at the restaurant I work at.
Happy Easter!!
Wow, that’s quite a long list. I’ve never heard of a lot of those sweets, but I guess that’s to do with me being from the UK. I love Mike and Ike’s though!!
xx
You know, I had never thought about vegan candy before! Vegan desserts, yes, but not candy. Interesting.
Happy Easter, Caity! :D I didn’t realize how many candies were vegan friendly. That’s so wonderful that big companies like that are trying to cater to more peoples’ dietary needs.
Killing me. I’ve just decided to give up candy until A) I get dental insurance again and B) I go to the dentist. And you are making my mouth water for candy!
I hadn’t given a thought to sweets, though I’m ahead of myself at the moment on the planning to be vegetarian – thinking of vegan foods too.
I haven’t seen any jolly ranchers here for years now, I thought they’d stopped making them. But skittles they do do, I’ll keep a note of that info.
Caity — I love most of the candies you mentioned!! I have a terrible sweet tooth. This Easter, I forbid my boyfriend or family members from sharing any Easter candy. It’s get a bit like Halloween…I try to give most of it away, but end up eating the majority of the left overs. Absolutely NO will power.
A friend recently baked a vegan cake. I’m not vegan and so I didn’t anticipate that it would good…sorry…but I can say it was absolutely delicious. I never would have know it was vegan. Even an old dog like me can learn new tricks…especially when it comes to sweets:~)
Caity,
p.s. I love the new LOOK:~)
Happy Easter, Caity! (assuming it’s still the 4th over there) Hope you had a great day!
Oh my, your friend Ashleigh’s cupcakes look delish! And that’s a very impressive list of vegan candies! I’m especially pleased to see Jelly Bellies and Pez on the list (two of my all-time faves). I’m not actual vegan myself, but I still prefer animal-free foods if they’re available (and taste ok!). I don’t think we get a lot of the other candies on that list here in Australia though…bummer!
I definitely admire your dedication to the vegan lifestyle because I don’t think I could live without chocolate. I know, I’m such a fat kid since at any signs of emotional distress, I have to have chocolate in my hand, lol. I was surprised at the amount of candies listed because I really thought it would be a lot less!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog! I’m going to be taking a look around yours too! Come back anytime!
I love, love chic-o-sticks! And it really blows my mind now that Skittles are vegan!
I thought Mike & Ike’s have confectioner’s glaze, which is not vegan. Hmm.
And….just looking at your list again- Jelly Bellys have beeswax, which isn’t vegan either. Just a head’s up! (I’m a strict vegan).
Jelly bellys are coated with Shellac. NOT VEGETARIAN!!!!!!!!!!!
Yuk! Just discovered this today. You have to buy the organic ones.
Just reading this blog for the first time (9/29/11). I can’t remember what Easter candy I bought you that Easter. I HOPE I stuck to your vegan list! ~ Love, Mom
