I'm Caity, a 25 year old living in New York with my husband, Josh. I'm a math teacher, amateur photographer, gamer, dreamer, blogger, singer, self-proclaimed dork, and wannabe kiwi. I sparkle!
Yesterday I wore my costume to work. I was a pirate! Yar! I don’t think I was a very good pirate, but I tried my best. I had a cool bandana, an eyepatch, cool skull rings, some coins on necklaces, and pirate hoop earrings. The problem was that I forgot that, besides my accessories, I needed clothes that were piratey. Oh well. I tried my best.
Some of the teachers at my school had really awesome costumes. A bunch of teachers dressed up as the Flinstones. They made their costumes out of felt and material and ran around in a homemade Flinstones car which they made all week in one of the Tech rooms. It was pretty epic. Two other teachers who happen to be husband and wife dressed up as characters from the book Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. That was one of my favorite costume combinations. I thought it was so clever. One had an umbrella with plastic food on it and a raincoat with spaghetti and meatballs glued to it and the other had a hat with an umbrella on it with the same thing and a blue raincoat with clouds and food painted on it. It was brilliant. There were lots of other great costumes, too, but those were my favorite.
We had fun at the YMCA too. We went Trick or Treating around the building and the kids had lots of fun Halloween activities. Myself and my co-counselor hosted Halloween Trivia and gave out candy and Halloween playing cards. I also gave away my pirate booty necklaces and some other pirate goodies that I bought. Some of the counselors had cool costumes, too. In another room, two counselors dressed up as Mario and Luigi and in another room they dressed up as the good witch and the bad witch. It was cute. My co-counselor dressed up as the gingerbread man from Shrek. His costume was great, although some of the kids didn’t know what he was! It was really funny.
When I got home, I decided that for one of the last days of Vegan MoFo (Vegan Month of Food) I should make something! I knew I wouldn’t really be around for Halloween so this was my last shot! I made my own pesto and put it over some whole wheat pasta! It was fantastic but next time I think I’ll put a little less garlic!! At least we’ll keep those vampires away tonight, though!

And something else I was thinking about as far as being Vegan and Halloween goes, what is your favorite candy? I found that, running into my first holiday, it might be a bit harder than I thought to be surrounded by my favorite things and realize I can’t eat it anymore. I found that I had to find new favorite things and new favorite recipes for certain holidays. Halloween is a pretty mild holiday and I was already finding myself a little pouty when I realized I couldn’t have some of my favorite candies I thought would be vegan. I am going to have to plan ahead for Thanksgiving and Christmas so I don’t find myself frustrated.
Also, possibly one of the coolest things that happened today, Melly relaunched her site after an extended hiatus and complete overhaul! You should go check it out and say hello. It’s absolutely amazing.

Milk chocolate ruins everything.
The simple costumes are the best customers (in my opinion). Nothing wrong with being a pirate in jeans and a shirt :) .
Glad you had fun at the YMCA and those costumes sounded really good.
That vegan presto sounds so yummy. I may have to give that a try at some point.
It’s a toss up between M’Ms or Reese’s peanut butter cups (or in white chocolate as well). I just have the white chocolate peanut butter cups with me, not the regular ones.
Hope you had a nice night and a safe holiday :) .
Aye Matey!
What you have on is GREAT! I do love pirates!! (and have a pirate costume myself). Sounds like a fun party you were at!! And Caity…you’ve changed your site! It looks awesome – a very “clean” look…
Oh man, that pesto just made me SOOOO hungry… LOL! And oh my gosh, a Flinstone car?? Are you serious?! LOL
Wow, the teachers at that school are pretty hardcore. :D
You make a really cute pirate by the way. hehe =]
Those “Cloudy…” costumes sound really fun! I wish I could see photos! Also, pesto? Probably one of my all time favorite things. I keep meaning to learn to make it so I can put it over green beans or some other vegetable. I think it’d be yummy that way. :)
I love your bandana and eyepatch, you can pretend you’re a retired pirate that went into teaching. ;)
You want to know my one favorite candy? It’s so hard to narrow it down but it would have to be caramel, mmm! I love it in any form whatsoever.
That pasta looks amazing, I’m going to have to try it out.
Wow, I don’t remember my teachers ever being so clever as the Flinstones bunch or the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs couple either! That’s awesome. I’m sure the kids and staff loved that. :)
Hope you had a good Halloween!

Omg how fun that you got to dress up… at my school we didn’t get to wear a costume but we had pajama day, which I guess is kind of fun.
That pesto pasta looks soooo good. Mmmm!
Btw, found you through NaBloPoMo! :)
Mmmm, homemade pesto sounds delicious. I love making pesto but it’s impossible to do when living in the dorms!
