I'm Caity, a 25 year old living in New York with my husband, Josh. I'm a math teacher, amateur photographer, gamer, dreamer, blogger, singer, self-proclaimed dork, and wannabe kiwi. I sparkle!
Naughty Caity! Not blogging yesterday either! That’s twice this month already I’ve missed a blog! For me, that’s a big deal! Maybe it doesn’t count since I haven’t gone to sleep yet and I’ll post another blog later today, most likely.
I had better get my act together for NaBloPoMo next month. That’s National Blog Posting Month for those who aren’t aware. I enter every month for those crazy bloggers who do it all year round, but the big month is November. I was successful last year, and would really like to complete it again. Maybe I can even blog every single day in 2010. How insane would that be?
I got this fortune in a cookie on Friday. No, I did not EAT the fortune cookie because almost all fortune cookies are made with eggs, but who passes up a fortune? I found this fortune to be particularly ironic. The day before I opened up my fortune, Josh and I were having a huge conversation about how I am constantly setting goals way too high for myself and how I should cut myself some slack. I am an insanely high achiever and tend to overachieve to the point of running myself into the ground and setting myself up for failure. This leads to the eventual self-hatred when I fail, which will always happen when you set goals that are unattainable or there are so many goals set at once that it is just too overwhelming.
You should have seen the look on my face when I opened up that cookie. Someone at the table might have thought it said something like, “Hey Caity. I’m watching you from that window over there.” But do you know what? It almost felt as if it might as well have said something as personalized as that.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s something more than irony.
What do you think my fortune is trying to say?
Do you believe in fortune cookies, horoscopes, or other similar things?

I just call it a big coincidence regarding your fortune cookie. :D And I don’t believe in those kind of stuff because they are so general that it can apply to anybody, especially horoscopes and astrology ~_~;;
But good luck with the NaBloPoMo next month, hehe. I have a fanfic due in November to write and edit that will take most of my time to consider the NaBloPoMo.
I don’t really believe in that sort of things. I do find it funny to read though:)
Hi Caity,
I take fortune cookies with a grain of salt. Sometimes there seems to be some relevance, and other time not.
If it’s trying to say something to you – it’s to not give up on the high goals you have for yourself. Maybe you won’t achieve everything you set out to – but I am a very strong believer that it’s better to aim high and miss and to aim low and be right on target…
I’m not that superstitious. Although I do believe things happen for a reason. So who really knows? :) I think it’s great that you just so happen to get a fortune cookie to say that! Maybe this will encourage you to keep making goals for yourself. I do suggest not to make them TOO high or hard to achieve unless you feel like you can handle it. I think a high goal every once in awhile is great — it will keep your spirits up and keep you motivated!
Here’s to lots of posts in November from you! I wonder if I should try that? :D
blogging every day next year, woah that would be insane! But hey, that’s another high goal for you :D
I don’t really believe in fortune cookies / horoscope etc because they are too general and can apply to anyone and anything. Therefor there is always ’something’ that makes you think of the fortune or horoscope.
Sorry for the re-post. I wrote the wrong website address in my comment. This is the right one.
Haha. I had an appointment with my physical therapist today, and he gave me a little lecture on this subject :P He told me that I’m a constant over-acchiever, and that I should select my battles. Set high goals in some situations, and let others go. No one can do it all. Made sence to me :) And no, I don’t have much faith in fortune-cookies (not that I’ve ever seen one) or horoscopes, but I find them amusing at times :)
when i had cervical cancer i got a fortune in a fortune cookie that said
You will live a long health life
really cheered me up, and now i’m better. it actually silly as it sounds gave me hope
i want to blog everyday for a month
oh yeah and i want to finish a 365
I think your fortune is trying to say,” Caity, you are grrrrrrreat.”
I plan to do NaBloPoMo this year as well…which means I need to be coming up with some good topics so I’ll have something to say everyday!
I sometimes read fortunes and horoscopes, and believe they are signs. Especially when I haven’t read any in a long time, and when I do, they seem to give me an answer to something I’ve been wondering about. Just try not to set your goals too high so that you are not discouraged!
Seting high goals is alright. Setting too high goals is NOT alright.
Being attached to the outcome is NOT alright and NOT renogatiating them when they are becoming too much is not alright either.
So set them and then adjust them, that has worked for me beautifully.

I like the idea of believing in the fortunes, and if they fit with your life at that time then it’s a nice affirmation. The last time I had a fortune cookie what it told me was true – however it was a late sign as what it told me had already happened. Kind of cool though.
Set high goals but don’t let them be the be all end all :)
Good luck with the blogging :)
I should particpate in NaBloPoMo! I’ve been a horrible blogger and need a little motivation!
I love fortune cookies. :) Well, it’s pretty much just a silly game but I still appreciate the words.
I think you’re reading a bit too much into it. Fun to think about, but nothing more. :)
